2017 was the 38th Annual Kamloopa Powwow which took place on the August long weekend from the 4th to 6th. The Kamloopa Powwow is one of the largest celebrations of First Nations’ culture and heritage in Western Canada, and is a vibrant display of storytelling, song, and dance in traditional regalia. The Powwow represents many years of stories and events from previous years packed into three exciting days at the Secwepemc Powwow Grounds located 2 minutes from the city centre, alongside the South Thompson River in Kamloops.
The Kamloopa Powwow attracts powwow dancers, drummers and craftspeople from all over North America. Categories include Traditional, Chicken, Jingle, Grass, Fancy Feather and Fancy Shawl for Adult, Golden Age, Teen & Junior participants.
