Cherry Docs

Thursday January 7, 2016  to Sunday January 24, 2016
The Pavillion Theatre

“In an ideal world I’d see you eliminated. In this world I need you more than anyone.”

The Other Theatre Company is proud to present their inaugural production, Cherry Docs opening Thursday, January 7 until Sunday, January 24 at the Pavilion Theatre. Written by Montreal based playwright David Gow, Cherry Docs has been produced across Canada, the United States, Germany and Israel. It is published by Scirocco Drama and was adapted into the film, Steel Toes. An explosive human drama where rage and intolerance collide with compassion, Cherry Docs is a story of hope, hate and combat boots.

Micheal (Nigel Beardwood) is a neo-Nazi Skinhead charged with the violent murder of a defenseless immigrant and his weapon of choice? His steel toed boots, a lethal pair of cherry Doc Martens. Legal Aid has assigned Danny Dunkelman (Todd Sullivan) , a Jewish liberal humanist, to represent him. Forced to come up with a defense and work together, an intense relationship develops between the two men as they explore their emotional and intellectual differences. They must examine the limits of their own beliefs and push past the inescapable presence of hatred in our society to finally connect again as human beings. Cherry Docs is an unblinking examination of hatred, the explosive effect it has on our society and the challenges we face in eradicating it. With demanding, sharply focused characters, important moral themes, timely and ultimately revealing story, David Gow asks us to confront the racism, violence and hatred within ourselves as well as society. Cherry Docs will have you on the edge of your seat experiencing this raw, thought provoking journey with consequences simultaneously gratifying, beautiful and heartbreaking. The play contains adult language and mature themes.
