The Man… The Music… The Legend…
The rocking, rolling story of Buddy Holly’s meteoric rise to fame as the world’s top recording artist, from the moment in 1957 when That’ll Be the Day hit the airwaves, until his tragic death less than two years later on “The Day the Music Died”. The show features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits, including Peggy Sue, Oh Boy, Everyday, Not Fade Away, and Raining In My Heart, plus Ritchie Valens’ La Bamba and The Big Bopper’s Chantilly Lace. Buddy is the jukebox musical that started it all – if you loved Million Dollar Quartet and Ring of Fire, then Buddy is guaranteed to make you cheer and dance in the aisles!
WCT 2018/2019 Season
Western Canada Theatre is excited to announce its 2018-19 Season, filled with terrific comedy, drama, music, and family fun, plus a touch of the unexpected! These are plays Artistic Director James MacDonald chose because they reflect who we are as Kamloopsians: big-hearted neighbours with a spirit of adventure, joy, and humanity.
Our Sagebrush season opens with the action, drama, and romance of Vern Thiessen’s Vimy to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of WWI. We follow that with a festive, toe-tapping, family holiday celebration, Elf: The Musical, based on the very popular movie. We then ring in the New Year with a new play, the world premiere of Meet My Sister, a quirky sibling-rivalry comedy with a Kamloops connection. Next, you’ll be dancing in the aisles to the international hit jukebox musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story. And whether you’re a parent or a child, or both, of any age, you’ll be sure to identify with Mom’s the Word: Nest 1/2 Empty, the newest generation of the hilarious and touching shows that have swept the world.
In the Pavilion, we offer theatrically diverse experiences – and a touch of risk and experimentation – with the world premiere of a raucous new comedy set right in our backyard called Kamloopa and the presentation of Tetsuro Shigematsu’s lyrical and beautiful Empire of the Son. We also have a return engagement of our 2016 sell-out production of Made in Italy for a limited time in February.
For the very young, Stage One Theatre School alumnus Randi Edmundson will bring her talents back to Kamloops with Freddie in the Neighbourhood, a family-friendly puppet show, and we will have our ever-popular 8th Annual Hallowe’en Family Dance Party. For our young adult audiences, Wednesday night’s Students’ Club at the Sagebrush Theatre will continue for high school and university students, joining with the participants of all ages of the Yac with Mac pre-show chats.
We are proud of the number of WCT productions that will be on the road this season, including earlier seasons’ GLORY and Made in Italy and this season’s Kamloopa and Vimy, carrying the names of Kamloops and WCT across British Columbia and western Canada.
We look forward to seeing you at this funny, touching, musical, adventurous season! We just can’t wait to get started, and to see you all there under the footlights in the fall of 2018
