VICTORIA – The Province is taking steps to establish a Provincial Athletic Commissioner, who would regulate and supervise professional contests such as boxing, kick-boxing and mixed martial arts. Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Ida Chong introduced Bill 50 – Athletic Commissioner Act – in the legislature today. Carbon monoxide leak halts Kamloops hockey tournament, sends 50 to hospital

They tried to keep playing, but heart palpitations, headaches and vomiting forced around 30 middle-aged hockey players to delay their Kamloops tournament Saturday afternoon after a carbon monoxide leak forced an evacuation of the arena. Canadian paddler Aaron Rublee close to securing Olympic spot

Aaron Rublee won in a photo finish Sunday to capture the men’s C1 200-metre race at the Canadian canoe/kayak national trials in Lake Lanier, Ga. The paddler from Kamloops, B.C., finished in a time of 41.07 seconds. The result was good enough for a spot on the World Cup tour and for one of two wins needed for selection to the Canadian Olympic team. Calgary, AB – The 2012 WHL Bantam Draft has concluded, and the Blazers have added ten players to the hockey club. The hockey club selected forward Jayden Halbgewachs in the 1st round, 19th overall. The 5’7” forward from Emerald Park, SK played this past season for the Bantam AA Prairie Storm in Balgonie, SK. In 24 games, he finished the season with 55 goals, 34 assists and 89 points. The KYSA will be conducting four free coaching sessions on Friday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, starting Friday, May 11 and on the following dates:  May 25, June 1 and June 7.
