THE SEASON: The Kamloops Blazers franchise is in their 39th season in the Western Hockey League and the 36th season as the Kamloops Blazers. The Blazers are 3-4-0-0 to start the season. The Blazers have played five of their first seven games on home ice. The Blazers will be in Kelowna tomorrow night to conclude the weekend. Next week, the Blazers will be home to Swift Current on Tuesday, Kelowna on Friday and Vancouver on Saturday.

BY THE NUMBERS: Ryan Hughes has played 254 career WHL games with Portland, Saskatoon and Kamloops… Connor Zary recorded his 100th career WHL point with an assist on September 27 vs. Kelowna…  Orrin Centazzo played his 100th career game with the Blazers on September 20th vs. Spokane… Zane Franklin recorded his 100th career WHL point with an assist on January 26th vs. Victoria…  Zane Franklin played his 200th career WHL game March 8th vs. Kelowna… Orrin Centazzo is four points shy of 100 in his WHL career.

HUGHES AND MARTIN BOLSTER ROSTER: The Kamloops Blazers have made two separate deals with the additions of 20-year-old forward Ryan Hughes from the Saskatoon Blades on September 25th and of 20-year-old defenseman Max Martin on October 4th. The Blazers sent a third round pick in 2021, a second round pick in 2022 and Jerzy Orchard to Saskatoon for Hughes and traded a second round pick and sixth round pick in 2020 for Martin. Combined, the two players add nearly 500 games of WHL experience and over 300 career points. 

NHL DRAFT: Quinn Schmiemann (Tampa Bay Lightning, 7th round, 182nd overall) 

DID YOU KNOW… The Kamloops Blazers won the 7th ever WHL tiebreaker on March 19, 2019 with the Blazers beating the Kelowna Rockets 5-1 to advance to the 2019 WHL Playoffs… Head Coach Shaun Clouston is in his first season behind the Kamloops Blazers bench after spending 16 seasons in Medicine Hat… He has 394 career WHL wins which is third amongst active coaches… Associate Coach Darryl Sydor played 1291 NHL games and won two Stanley Cups with Dallas in 1999 and Tampa Bay in 2004… He also has coached six seasons in the NHL with Minnesota and St. Louis between 2011-2018… Goaltender Dylan Garand won a Silver Medal with Canada at the Under-18 Hlinka/Gretzky Cup in August 2019… Zane Franklin and Orrin Centazzo are both from the town of Marwayne, AB with a population of 500 and are cousins… Forward Martin Lang (Carolina Hurricanes), defenseman Montana Onyebuchi (Calgary Flames) and defenseman Quinn Schmiemann (Tampa Bay Lightning) attended NHL training camps in September.
