10th Annual Kamloops Wine Festival

Date:  2008.03.28    Duration:

The Kamloops Art Gallery proudly presents the 10th Annual Kamloops Wine Festival, Friday, March 28, 2008 from 7:30 to 10:00 pm at Forster’s Convention Centre. The Kamloops Wine Festival is the most comprehensive wine event in the city, and its success continues to grow each year. This important fundraiser for the Gallery is jointly organized with Forster’s.

The theme for this year’s Festival is “Going Global,” and the consumer tasting portion of the event features a selection of wines from Italy, Australia and Spain, in addition to the outstanding selection of B.C. wines that have been the cornerstone of this event in past years. British Columbia wines now stand on the international stage, and guests at the Festival can compare them with wines from other renowned wine-making countries. There are over 100 wines to try. Guests also have the opportunity to learn about wine through two new additions to the Festival, “Wine Tasting 101” sessions, and cooking with wine demonstrations.

As in years past the evening features delectable snacks with wine and food pairing suggestions, relaxing live music with Tina, Dale and Henry, a wonderful door prize, an extensive silent auction, and exhibitors. The exhibitors include Fratelli Foods, who will be showcasing their fine cheeses; Save-On Foods, who will be highlighting their wonderful bakery; and Advantage Travelwise, who will discuss travel packages to wine destinations.

Starting March 12, anyone can visit the Gallery’s web site, www.kag.bc.ca, to find out which wineries are confirmed to pour at the consumer tasting part of the festival. As soon as wineries are confirmed they will be added to the website.

As a complement to the Wine Festival, the Gallery is organizing a new and exclusive wine tasting seminar, Luxury Wines for the Platinum Palate. This takes place on Thursday, March 27 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Columbia Room at Forster’s. Registration is at 6:30pm.

This seminar is an opportunity to taste some very rare and top-tier wines, along with classic benchmark wines from Australia and California. The tasting includes both modern and historic vintages, making it a rare chance to sample new and mature wines side by side. These wines range in price from $50 to $100 per bottle. Included in the seminar is a discussion of how wines are professionally evaluated.

Tickets for the seminar, separate from the Wine Festival, are $60 and are available at the Gallery or by phone at 377-2400. There are 40 tickets available, and they can be purchased only in advance. This event is also a fundraiser for the Kamloops Art Gallery.

The organizers would like to thank the following sponsors of these events: Kamloops Daily News, Radio NL, KPA Printers, Pacific Coastal Airlines, Penfolds, Fratelli Foods, Wolf Blass and Beringer.
