Clearwater - Over 2400 Marihuana Plants Seized
The rural property on Pye Road near Vavenby had two outbuildings that contained marihuana grow operations. One building had been recently built, it had two levels and contained over 1500 marihuana plants. The second older building also had two levels. In this building all the plants had been cut and were ready to be transported to another location. Police estimate over 900 plants had been harvested in this building.
Clearwater RCMP were assisted by Central Interior Traffic Services (Clearwater), Police Dog Service and Kamloops Forensic Identification Section.
Inside the house, a person had cut into the electrical system prior to the power consumption meter and was diverting power to the marihuana grow operation. Given the size of the grow the amount stolen would have been a substantial.
Nobody was found on the property at the time the search warrant was executed but police have several possible suspects and will be following up. They will be facing charges of Production of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Theft of Electricity.
BC Hydro has been alerted to the theft of electricity and the power has been cut off to the property as a safety precaution.
Police have huge concerns about the potential fire hazard of these operations. In this area there is no fire protection and a fire would have put nearby residents at considerable risk.
