Gore, a retired BIG Little Science Centre Photos GIF science teacher who has dedicated his life to teaching science in an interactive environment. The Centre currently operates out of four classrooms leased from School District 73 at Bert Edwards Science and Technology School. The current program format allows visitors a period of time to experiment on their own at any of 120 plus hands-on stations located in two classrooms. A third room is used for demonstrations while the fourth room is used for demonstrations and serves as a basic teaching laboratory with capacity for 32 visitors.

Stay Safely Hydrated

Sarah Michaels

In order for your body to function normally, it must replenish its water supply. According to the doctors at the Mayo Clinic, your water needs depend on various factors including your health, amount of daily activity, the climate you live in and whether you’re pregnant or breast feeding.

While there is no set amount that fits everyone, understanding the body’s need for water can help estimate how much to drink each day, whether via a water filter sink, bottled water or another source.

The first approach to rehydrating the body is to replace lost fluids. People lose water from breathing, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. In order to replace the lost fluids, consume about two liters of water along with your regular diet. Water can come from countertop water purifiers or other beverages.

Another approach to staying hydrated is to follow the recommendations of The Institute of Medicine. Dietary recommendations for men include about three liters of total beverages a day and 2.2 liters for women. Sources of water can include water filters for home or office use or other beverages.

The long-standing eight-glasses-a-day recommendation has been swept aside by new studies that suggest it is best to satisfy thirst with any beverage instead of worrying about the specific amount. However, it is not always safe to wait until you’re thirsty before you have a drink. Thirst is usually a sign that your body is already slightly dehydrated. To avoid the sensation of thirst, make sure to drink water during and between meals, hydrate during and after exercise and drink water instead of alcohol at social events.

For added health benefits and if you’re concerned about water alkalinity, you can purchase an alkaline water ionizer machine. This type of water purifier will provide you with alkaline ionized water which is associated with various health benefits including faster rehydration, weight loss, body detoxification cleanse and much more.
